The first stage of this year’s Tour de France passed through nearby Tonbridge so we hopped on a train and got a very close look at the race. Here the peloton climbs a Quarry Hill Road going out of Tonbridge. I managed to find a good spot on the hill, where there were no barricades. I started shooting as they came up the hill and got this and some other fairly good shots. I didn’t realise how close the riders were to me until I looked away from the viewfinder for a second and realised their heads were passing about six inches from my elbow! An amazing spectacle! More photos on flickr. And some interesting videos on youtube.
